Advanced Top: Workers reach the top floor of construction at Amazon H2Q Metropolitan Park
Amazon joins local community leaders and construction workers to celebrate the completion of the top floor of construction in Metropolitan Park.
Metropolitan Park, the first phase in the development of the second headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, is formed when Amazon celebrates an important milestone in completing the highest floor of the building. More than 4,800 skilled artisans and project managers are building Metropolitan Park and devoting more than 2.2 million hours to this project.
In addition to great progress in construction over the past two years, Amazon has built ongoing partnerships across the community. The two 22-story Metropolitan Park office buildings will include more than 50,000 square feet of retail space for local small businesses and a 700-person meeting center that will be available to local community groups. The entire complex will also be powered by 100% renewable energy.
Since 2018, they have pledged more than $ 34 million in total investments to local charities, community groups, public schools and businesses in the local community. This includes both financial and in-kind donations, such as school supplies for public schools throughout Northern Virginia, support for hyper-local racist initiatives, and food donations to local food banks and a pantry for needy families.
These commitments are in addition to Amazon's announcement in 2021 to create the Amazon Housing Fund. The fund aims to preserve existing affordable housing and create housing developments through low-interest loans and grants to housing partners, traditional and non-traditional public agencies, and minority-led organizations. To date, they have pledged over $ 795 million in low-interest loans and grants to create or preserve up to 4,400 affordable homes in the HQ2 area, with further investments to come.
