Although a new project designed in the Union Market may have offered the most prominent design concept in DC, it was an adaptation of a project proposed in Trinidad that may have raised the most eyebrows.

Urbanico Realty Group Recruited the industrial designer Karim Rashid And his Kurv Architecture office to design a 37-unit housing unit that replaced the 1200 Bladensburg Road NE tire shop.

The units will be spread between two-bedroom studios, and a local cafe or restaurant that they will be renting on the ground floor. Five of the units will be affordable for households earning up to 80 percent of the median family income (MFI), while one more bedroom will be affordable for households earning up to 50 percent MFI.

The Urbanico Realty group is expanding its presence around Corridor of Bladensburg Road With an impressive new development designed by industrial designer Karim Rashid. Bonstra Haresign is the senior architect and Kurv Architecture assisted in the design of the building; Kurv's design director, Karim Rashid, is known for out-of-the-box designs for buildings around the world.

The processing of the resulting design elicited several reactions when it first appeared, for example, one respondent compared the building to the MLK library in design-
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

The building design may seem unusual for DC and is certainly very linear compared to Rashid's other building designs, many of which combine bright accent colors with abstract shapes for windows and the building. As for the cosmopolitan buildings surrounding the new development proposed, Urbanico's managing partner, Isaac Pinto, said they are a purely aesthetic choice for the area.

“We wanted the project to act as a catalyst for the move The evolutionary Next of Bladensburg Road As we see it, but also to show our solid DNA in the best way, and I believe the two are not so different, ”Pinto shared. “Kerim was a natural choice to design this project for us. The democratic design philosopher and responsible for his environment answered our tagging list perfectly. Thus, the developer invites investors to take part in the project with minimum risks and unforeseen expenses, and a real possibility for immediate ascent to the ground.
Upon completion of construction, the apartments and commercial complex will be rented, and the entire project will be sold as one piece after a period of about 12 months of stable rental of the project. The project is expected to be completed within about 3 years.
