I'm considering buying my first home, I have no idea how to start the process.
This is my first post, please be understanding (:
I am 27. I work full time and have 3 children (6, 3 and 9 months) and deal with their father [34 m] who stays at home with our children.
For the last 5 years we lived in the same 2 bedroom apartment in NW Oregon, paying approximately $ 805 per month. There is a $ 30 sewage drain standing today and they informed us that the rent will increase at $ 60 after 90 days. We also pay for our natural gas heat.
Our apartment is tattered, all painted white, no dishwasher, washer / dryer to pay for joint use with other units 3. The buildings are 1930's fleet housing that was repurposed into quadraplexes. We are constantly fighting mold on the walls and lack of hot water.
The landlord acts like a heavy drug user always losing around going 100 mph. They are always rude and dealing with them is a hassle every time.
What I am trying to say is that there are many reasons why my family wants to divide the roads with this apartment and the landlord.
So my question is, is buying a realistic home for us? With the current state of the economy / housing market? I have decent credit and my parents will be able to cross with me if necessary. I know I need an down payment as well, which needs to be doable.
Usually no mortgage payments around or perhaps less than what we pay to live in our current apartment? Can I expect to have something nicer (ie, no Ben 80) than we have with 12.00 $ / hr (plus bonuses) full-time?
Thanks for reading my post, I really appreciate any feedback! I am an absolute novice in this department and welcome any advice! ?
